Living Invitations 5

You can watch all of our sermons and Bible studies on the Preaching in Shorts website. We are including them here on Online Ministry Training for your convenience.

This message is about righteousness. It is about knowing the difference between living in His righteousness and self-righteousness.

Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

The breastplate was the part of the armor that protected the heart. The righteousness of God will keep our hearts soft. Self-righteousness will make us hard-hearted. His righteousness will help us to be more selfless, self-righteousness will make us more selfish.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

I think we can define righteousness as “being right with God”. We are not made right with God by being “good” or performing well. We are made right with God because of His grace as we put our faith and trust in Christ.

We have to live this out before the world. We get right with God in Christ and then we try and live by doing what is right, by doing the next right thing. We are not perfect and therefore we do not need to run around pointing fingers of judgment.
